Phitsanulok Pittayakom School EP students undergo science camp with Canadian scientists


Phitsanulok, Thailand - The English Program students of Phitsanulok Pittayakom School are undergoing a two-day Science Camp at school with Canadian and Filipino scientists. 

The camp officially opened early morning today, May 30, at the Chaiyanuphap Hall attended by the school administrators and the EP teachers and staff.

Dr. Manop Ketmak, Phitsanulok Pittayakom School director said the camp will help the participants develop their knowledge about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. 

Addressing the 150 participants from Matayom 3, 4, 5 and 6 classes, the director added "I hope you will take this opportunity to learn as much as you can because this is a rare chance for you to study with international experts."

Phitsanulok Pittayakom School- English Program Department  has partnered with Pueblos Science - Canada to train students in the different fields of Science. This year's camp theme focuses on Robotics and Reactions. 

Pueblos Science-Canada is a Toronto-based charitable organization working to advance science education across the world. They have done training and camps in the Philippines, Thailand, Guyana, India and Bolivia. 

Since its first international mission to the Philippines in 2011, the organization has developed over 150 new experiments, involved over 700 volunteers, trained 2,000 teachers and engaged at least 210,000 students.

Dr. Mayrose Salvador, a Filipino-Canadian scientist who heads the Pueblos Science-Canada team, said the organization envisions a world where all children can become part of the next generation of innovators.

"Our mission is to engage and inspire youth to pursue a lifelong interest in science and engineering," she added.

Ms. Mary Joy Benliro, a Filipino Science Teacher in the English Program of Phitsanulok Pittayakom School, is instrumental in bringing Science Pueblos-Canada in Thailand.

The camp participants will receive Certificate of Participation from the school director and trainers during the closing program set tomorrow afternoon, May 31.
